Dear Suzanne,
My favorite pj tradition growing up was to get together with my six pajama-ed siblings in front of the fireplace and sing carols on Christmas Eve. One particular memory I have is sitting on my mom’s lap in front of the roaring fire and asking her if the fire would be put out before Santa slid down a (very hot?) chimney. Whatever her response was, I'm sure it was a reasonable explanation to a sleepy toddler.
As shown in the photo, footed pj’s were my favorite. (That’s me on the right side, not singing, apparently still jealous of my six-month-old brother for usurping my status as the family baby!)
Thanks for reading with me, I love the book club! Regards, Connie ______________________________
Suzanne--
A pj party....what fun!! Years ago...probably almost 50...my mom entertained my girl friends for my 16th birthday with a pj party in our back yard. It was such fun...actually it was an overnight slumber party complete with lots of great food and even a surprise visit from some of the guys...to my mom's horror! Needless to say she didn't allow them to stick around very long. The next morning one of our close neighbors invited all the girls to a swim in her pool. Back in the day...backyard pools were pretty unheard of and it was a special treat.
Thanks so much for reminding me of 'by-gone' years ....so much fun and hadn't thought of it in a long time till your pj party column. Reading with the book club is always special and quite often I do it in my robe/slippers! Mary

Dear Suzanne, I am continuing your tradition of annual PJs for the granddaughters, except I give them the PJs at Thanksgiving when the girls are together at their grandparents' house. I have 4 granddaughters ages 9,8,7 & 5- I call them the Little Women. In order, oldest to youngest, they are Isis, Morgan, Ariel & Rachael. Each girl has 1 sister, and 2 cousins who are sisters. For the last 5 or 6 years we have gathered in Williamsburg, VA, and the girls get their new matching PJs on Thanksgiving evening. On Friday morning my talented son takes their photo in the PJs. We have a series of annual photo of the girls in their matching Thanksgiving PJs- the latest is attached. My favorite is from several years ago-- all 4 are in their pink flannel cowgirl PJs. Even though they are getting older, they still enjoy romping together in their new duds. The annual PJs are a tradition they look forward to. Bonnie
