Suzanne’s Online PJ Party

<Previous Page

PJ18Suzanne, we love pj's at our house. I bought every single person in my family (all 18) pj's for Christmas. Here are a few of the pictures to share at your pj party....

Picture 1 - our lil ones Christmas Eve. Nickname pj's (MeMe) Amariah, (GiGi) Georgia, (Mir Mir) Amirah, (Moo) Adrianne, (Bubby) Jackson. Too much fun.

Picture 2 - the whole gang - some wearing the pj's and some not.

Enjoyed your pajama party - thanks for inviting me. Vicki

Hi, Suzanne:

While I do possess some great PJs (including a top covered with a number of good-looking wolves) my favourite sleeping attire are several housecoats that were my dear grandma's. The interesting thing is that she was smaller than me, but her housecoats fit me perfectly. Happy Pajama Party!

Dear Suzanne,

On their honeymoon in 1946, my father bought my mother THE most majestic robe - it was ivory quilted satin, lined in pale pink satin, with a shawl collar and matching sash belt and it trained - like something Loretta Young would have worn - or been envious of!!!! To this day it is still the most luxurious article of clothing I have ever seen.

When I was a young girl, probably age 8 or 9, I would come home from school, run upstairs, get out of my uniform and put on my mom's robe. When I would come down the stairs the end of the train would still be at the top stair when I reached the bottom. I would sleep in that robe - there was nothing like it. I never saw my mother wear the robe - she was way too practical - and way too busy with 4 children (twin boys 2 years younger than me and another girl 7 years younger than me.

Every day she would tell me to take off the robe, but every day I wore that robe. One day when I came home from school and ran upstairs, the robe was GONE!!! I ran back down yelling MOM, MOM THE ROBE IS GONE!!!! My mom said that she was tired of me dragging the robe through the house and was giving it to good will. I cried and begged and pleaded and promised I would not wear the robe, but PLEASE don't give it away. The deal was she would continue keep the robe on the back of her bedroom door, but I couldn't wear it. I agreed.

Nearly a year later, when my mom was closing her bedroom door, she heard a noise, like a faint jingle - she moved the door again - again the jingle. After much investigation, she found her engagement ring and diamond wedding band that she had hid in the pocket of the robe (she rarely wore those rings - only on occasion - and was famous for hiding things and not remembering where). The pocket had a hole and the rings had gone down into the lining - with that massive length of hemline it took quite awhile for the rings to find each other and jingle.

I became a hero and my reward was being allowed to wear the robe again and did for many, many years until it finally fell apart from wear. I will never forget how that robe made me feel - not just because of its lush beauty but because my father gave it to my mother - his queen.

I'm sorry if I went on too long - have a wondrous day!!!! Thanks again, Jo

Many years ago, Colorado started the Colorado Avalanche hockey team. The first year we won the national trophy, I got to see and actually touch it at the hotel where it was on display. My niece bought me a purple Avalanche tee shirt for my birthday that year. It was soooo big that I started wearing it for a nightshirt and have been doing that ever since. It's my favorite nightshirt! Dorie Dorie

Luckily, I didn’t grow up with a “tiger mom” so I went to sleepovers a lot as a pre-teen and early teen. They were the best pajama parties, giggling with my girlfriends, playing light as a feather, telling stories, and generally talking through all the mysteries of getting older…and boys!

No pictures that I can find, but we all wore nighties, and slept in sleeping bags on the floor of family or living rooms. Such great memories! Amy

As I'm nearing my 50th birthday in March and my kids are getting older, I'm thinking more of my childhood days. Your pajama chat brought up more really fun memories. Growing up in suburban NY in th '60's, my family and I used to go to drive-in movies. Mom and Dad in front, me and my sister Debby in the back. When we went to the Friday or Saturday night movies, Mom had me and Debby get bathed first, then we put on our pajamas (usually the footie ones!) and we'd all climb into the car and head to the movies. I haven't thought of that in ages, but thanks to you, those good times are back. I don't have pictures of us back then, though I'm sure we were adorable. Thanks for the memories! Jody

As a teacher, we often had "pj day" which was very popular with the students. Footed jammies were a favorite, but soft flannel pants were a close second. I always searched for some with the decorum to wear in front of the class, but still fun so I have a collection of ones with valentine conversation hearts, cartoon characters and other fun prints. But recently on a mark down rack I found the softest Vera Wang set and I love them so much I wash them and put them right back on rather than rotate different pairs. This may be a great commercial for Vera Wang, but how does she get some lovely soft fabric!! Lisa

My favorite pj’s are an old t-shirt and a pair of yoga pants AND a gift I just got for my 50th – a Snuggie. I thought it would be the stupidest thing anyone ever invented (and then gave me) but I LOVE that thing. And so does the cat – he appropriately “snuggles” into it too. :-) Suzan
