Suzanne’s Online PJ Party

<Previous Page

Hi Suzanne,

PJ9I always loved PJ parties and when I was in high school I lived with a family who had a daughter around the same age as me. We were very close and I loved going to her house for a slumber party. One particular night I had to borrow some pajamas from her. I thought they were so cool because the material was a silky satin and oh so smooth. I soon, however, found their flaw. We were giggling and laughing and I started to slip and with the extra silkiness of the pjs, I would slip right off the bed. This of course spurred on giggles.

I don’t have pictures of this particular set but I do have pics of some favorites as a kid. Corrie

Dear Suzanne...oh my, you do open up memories. Who would have thought pajamas had interest? I remember, I remember..

About 78 years ago, I was madly in love with another l5 year old...he was the cutest thing ever, and popular! We went to the same school, and were part of a "group".(.no one called them gangs, for sure!) And one of the girls had a girl/boy party, and since pajamas were suddenly the thing to wear to parties, this was what was then called a pajama party..only the boys didn't wear them, of course.

We were poor as churchmice, but my mother had managed to stick away a few dimes here and there and when I sighed over the too short, too thin pjs I was wearing every night, she went down town and came home with the cutest pj's I had ever seen! They were pale blue with white pokadots, white organdy puffed sleeves and belt, white buttons in back, and one piece, with full full full pants! I just loved them.

I was the hit of the party. l5 year olds can be cruel, and these were all normal kids, but no one did anything but touch the sleeves or hold out the belt and say "So CUTE!" Ah, that was the only tiime I was belle of the ball! Wish I had a picture of that night! Marion

Dear Suzanne ~

When I was in middle school, we moved to Kansas and lived in a great old house built in the 1920's. Despite its abundance of charm, it was very cold and drafty in the winters. Our bedrooms were upstairs and the floors were hardwood and oh so chilly stepping out on them from our warm beds in the morning. We wore long full flannel nightgowns and fought to stand over the floor heater vents to get dressed -- our night gowns acting as tents to trap the warm air. Unfortunately I have no photos but lots of great memories... Bev

Suzanne - PJ's - my favorite piece of clothing! It has been such a cold winter here in Buffalo this year (as in many parts of the country - including your very own Florida!) -- and most January evenings find me getting home from work at about 5-5:30 and climbing immediately into my pj's for the evening, and then after dinner - in front of the fireplace, lighting a scented candle, and settling into my couch nest with my current book, while my hubby is on his barcolounger with his sweats and remote control. Any pj's will do, but most of mine are warm comfy cotton, full length (for me at 4'11") legs and arms, and most definitely socks. I have my favorite pjs that I wear and wear and wear, until they are wearing thin in the butt and coming apart at the seams, all while new pairs sit unworn in the bureau drawer, waiting their turn.

When April arrives, those pj's and habits will slowly vanish and I will be donning my capri cotton pj's and flip flops and spending more time around the house and will begin venturing outside.

But for now, I'm enjoying just settling in to enjoy this winter time in my pjs, and wondering what pearls of wisdom Suzanne will have for me in the morning..... Sorry no picture, those worn-thin pj's are not fit for prying eyes!!! Kathy

Dear Suzanne - you of the adorable striped PJs -

When I was a child growing up in the 1950s, my favorite jammies were the ones with feet, made of a soft, warm knitted fabric (old-timey precursor to today's fleece). They had nonskid soles, snaps up the front and a drop seat fastened with two snaps. I wore them until I was so old that I outgrew the available sizes - probably around age 12.

Today, in my sleeveless white cotton nightie, I keep warm with the addition of hubby, cat, and an electric mattress pad. Life was simpler with footie jammies!

Sweet dreams to you and all my fellow book club readers - Pam

I remember at Christmas-time my mom decked us out in PJ's for Christmas Eve...I was the 3rd girl so mine were usually hand-me-down. Every now & then for some reason I'd be gifted a brand new pair! Oh the memory of New PJ Smell!

Thank you for inviting me to your PJ party:) Your friend, Dorene
